Today we're bringing specialized models trained using Muse Wonder to @Muse and Meta AI, giving users access to some of Muse Wonder's frontier capabilities for complex tasks at work and in everyday life.

These specialized models include Muse Wonder's Active Memory and Active Focus, helping them stay aligned with your goals as tasks unfold:

→ Active Memory helps recognize when earlier information matters and distinguish what's still relevant from what's become stale

→ Active Focus helps recover from setbacks or find alternatives when constraints change

In Muse, the improved models show a 2.4x reduction in forgetting information critical to your goals and a 67% improvement in getting unstuck as constraints evolve. That means less repeating yourself and fewer dead ends when plans change.

In Meta AI, these improvements help it break complex problems into steps, ask sharper follow-up questions and adapt when you change direction.

Five predictions about what might come next:

1. AI isn’t not over. [Did anyone actually say “AI is over” after the DeepSeek moment? (I did not. Is anyone saying that now? I am not.]

2. What might actually be over is the era of insanely high valuations - for generative AI — and exponentially increasing investments in data centers.

3. People will continue to use generative AI (now mostly via harnessed neurosymbolic models with tools and loops rather than the once dominant pure LLMs that are no longer popular).

4. New, more reliable architectures will eventually displace today’s AI, but it may take several years, or more.

5. A newer generation of AI will actually be worth a lot of money; this one was overrated and people will eventually see that in hindsight.

  • 原文支持: In a few tens of billions of years, they will have transformed the rest of the reachable universe.

原文内容:

I have thought about this since the 1970s. See the summary in Sec. 20 of reference [1]:

What will supersmart AIs do? As indicated above, they will start by transforming the solar system through countless self-replicating, self-improving robot factories. But that won't be the end of it. In a few hundred thousand years (just a moment on a cosmic scale), they will have transformed the entire galaxy, which has a diameter of about 100,000 light-years. (The last millennium saw many reasonable proposals for interstellar travel, which is much easier for robots than for fragile humans.)

Over time, AIs will set up physical senders and receivers everywhere, allowing them to travel by radio, just as they do in our labs today. In a few tens of billions of years, they will have transformed the rest of the reachable universe. Despite the light-speed limit, the expanding AI sphere will have ample time to colonize and shape the entire visible cosmos [TED12][SA17].

Perhaps all of this has already started elsewhere in the universe. Then why don't we see any signs of intelligence out there? (The Fermi paradox.) I've thought about this a lot.

When I was a boy, I read about the vast empty spaces observed between clusters of galaxies. My first idea was that they were expanding bubbles colonized by AIs that used most of the local energy, making those bubbles appear dark. Then, I learned that gravity itself is sufficient to explain the sparse, large-scale network structure of the universe.

Next, I thought that the mysterious "dark matter," which makes up most of the universe's mass, might be stars whose energy is used by AI civilizations whose communications are so well encrypted that they appear as random noise to us. However, this also seemed implausible because dark matter is present in all galaxies, including our own. So, why are there any stars left in the Milky Way whose energy hasn't been used yet?

And why aren't we bombarded with non-encrypted construction plans from AIs that want to spread via radio without first building physical receivers far from their origins?

Today, I think it's possible that our planet is the first in our light cone to spawn an expanding AI bubble. Earth's multi-billion-year window for biological evolution is almost over. In a few hundred million years, the sun will be too hot for life as we know it. Perhaps humans were incredibly lucky to evolve in time to invent agriculture, civilization, book printing, and AIs just a few hundred years later. If we are indeed the first, then this implies a great deal of responsibility, not just for our biosphere, but for the future of the entire universe. Let's not mess this up.

💡 核心观点: A guy got kicked out of an NBA game Wednesday night for throwing the ball back to the ref.(规则摘要)

可信度: 50/100

原文内容:

A guy got kicked out of an NBA game Wednesday night for throwing the ball back to the ref.

He used a chest pass, the same one your gym teacher taught you in fourth grade.

The ref he threw it to is 6'1" and played college basketball.

Her name is Chelisa Painter, and this is her rookie season as a full-time NBA official. She played at George Washington and Old Dominion, then signed a pro contract to play in Ireland. After that she spent seven years reffing Division I games and five seasons in the G League, 215 games in all, before the NBA hired her full-time this year.

She's caught a chest pass or two in her life, she just wasn't expecting one from a guy in the front row, and it got her on the arm.

So why'd he get tossed? Because of one line in the NBA's fan code of conduct. If you throw an object, you're out, immediately. The rule doesn't say anything about how hard you threw it or whether it was the game ball you were handing back, which means once that ball touches a ref, the security guy walking over has nothing left to decide. And per the code, you leave without a refund, and the team can take your season tickets and keep you out of future games.

The NBA made it that strict on purpose. Back in the 2018-19 season, the number of fans thrown out of courtside seats more than doubled, so the league started watching several rows deep instead of just the people with their feet on the floor. If you're sitting courtside now, you're sitting right where security is paying the most attention.

And then you've got the guy who flagged it.

That was Luka. He's hit 16 technicals in three different seasons, which is supposed to mean an automatic one-game suspension, and every single time the league went back and took the 16th one away. In April 2025 he got ejected in Oklahoma City because a ref thought the trash talk he was yelling at a fan was meant for him.

So he knows better than almost anyone how fast a misread split second turns into you walking to the locker room.

The league has wiped Luka's 16th technical off his record three separate times so he wouldn't miss a game, and on Wednesday night he got to be the one deciding a fan's chest pass was too much.

💡 核心观点: A guy in Ohio robbed four banks wearing a $650 silicone mask, and the cops arrested the wrong man.(规则摘要)

可信度: 50/100

原文内容:

A guy in Ohio robbed four banks wearing a $650 silicone mask, and the cops arrested the wrong man. Six of seven bank employees picked the innocent guy out of a lineup. His own mother looked at the security photo and thought it was her son.

The robber was Conrad Zdzierak, a white 30-year-old from Poland. The mask was a young Black man's face called "The Player," which he ordered from a little special effects shop in LA called SPFX Masks. The man police arrested sat in jail until Zdzierak's girlfriend found the mask and a pile of cash in his hotel room and called it in.

When detectives opened Zdzierak's safe, they found a second mask from the same shop, an old white guy called "The Elder." That same year, a young man wore that exact model onto an Air Canada flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver. Gate staff noticed his hands looked way too young for his face and let him board anyway. He only got caught because he took the mask off in the airplane bathroom and walked back out as a guy in his early twenties.

Those were the amateurs, though. Over in France, a crew used the same trick on Skype calls and pulled in €55 million.

Gilbert Chikli's people built a replica of the French defense minister's office, flags and a portrait of the president on the wall and everything, and one of them sat behind the desk in a custom mask of the minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian. They'd call rich people and ask for secret money to pay ransoms for French hostages. They tried more than 150 people and only three paid, which still worked out to about €18 million each. The Aga Khan alone wired €20 million over five transfers. Police later found photos of a Prince Albert of Monaco mask on one of their phones, so it looks like they had a sequel planned.

What tripped them up with Senegal's president had nothing to do with the face. Macky Sall actually knew Le Drian, and the guy on the call kept calling him "vous," the formal version of "you." Friends in France say "tu."

The reason these masks work is kind of clever once you see it. A full-head mask has holes for the eyes and mouth, so the blinking, the eye movement and the lips forming words all come from a real person. In the video you can see the silicone runs all the way down past the collarbones, so there isn't even a line at the chin to catch. Pretty much everything on that face that moves is real.

Researchers at York and Kyoto tested this in 2019. They showed people two photos side by side, told them flat out that one was a mask, and people still picked wrong one time in five. When they only got half a second to look, they missed one in three. The researchers think real life is worse, since most people don't even know masks this good exist.

They're also way easier to get now. In 2024 a burglar in Shanghai broke into four apartments disguised as an old man, and Chinese sellers told reporters they don't ask buyers for any ID.

And all of this happened before most people had even heard the word deepfake.

New on our Science Blog: How AI is beginning to change scientific modeling.

Scientific models help researchers explain and predict real-world systems—like how a single nerve cell fires, or what happens when neutron stars collide. Recent advances have transformed how scientists fit complex models to data. But scientists still typically write the models manually, and usually need to weigh up several competing versions, each of which might explain the data in a different way.

In a guest post, Jakob Macke, Daniel Gedon, and Stefan Wahl describe how AI is starting to help with these parts of the process. By writing, running, fitting, and revising scientific models as code, AI can explore many possible model structures, and find out which explanations the data support.

it’s crazy how the Silicon Valley finale ended with AI discovering a math breakthrough that could break up the world’s encryption.

in the show, the AI wasn’t even trying to break encryption. it just stumbled upon the discovery while recursively improving Pied Piper’s compression algorithm and itself, without any engineers guiding the process.

now 7 years later, with OpenAI’s math and Anthropic’s cryptanalysis progress, watching that ending hits a little different.

man this show was really ahead of its time, not talking about it “predicting” anything but just the sheer range of things its writers could imagine back then.

Another major AI research breakthrough: Physical Superintelligence says its research system used a non-public Anthropic model to prove the Aaronson-Ambainis conjecture, a central problem in quantum computing that had remained open since 2008.

The result helps explain when quantum computers can achieve an exponential advantage over classical computers. PSI says the system found a complete proof on its third day, and the final version was checked with Lean.
